STATE Government Relations

The California Space Authority will sponsor and support state legislative and regulatory action that removes barriers to space enterprise and finds ways to improve California's reputation as a place where space enterprise can operate. California's economic health and the flow of revenue to public agencies depend on the state's ability to attract investment. We will work to open new markets and support legislation and policies that provide incentives to economic growth and vitality.

CSA joined over 300 California companies and industry groups today in urging state leaders to work together to improve California’s regulatory climate by increasing legislative oversight of state regulatory agencies, performing independent cost-benefit analyses for new regulations, weeding out outdated and ineffective regulations and agencies, and stepping up the state’s efforts to create new jobs and grow the state’s economy. If you wish, here’s an easy way to contact your elected officials and let them know that NASA and its space exploration programs are on the right trajectory. As the President and Congress weigh the options for our nation’s future space exploration policy, it’s important our elected officials know that you support the Constellation and Ares rocket programs.

September 30, 2009 Action Alert--SB 147 Needs Industry Support
CSA is supporting a measure that will ensure that more career technical education (CTE) courses offered in high school can be used for admission to the California State University (CSA) system with the goal of helping to increase the pool of engineering candidates by ensuring that students whose goals were to be technicians are given the opportunity to advance towards advanced degrees in the California State University (CSU) system. We ask you to consider sending a letter of support to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and urging him to affix his signature to SB 147.

August 5, 2009 Action Alert: Career Technical Education Equity Reform Bill Needs Your Help (PDF)

August 3, 2009 NASA ARRA Funding Letter from Governor Schwarzenegger (PDF)

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger reached out to the California Space Authority recently to request input on NASA programs that industry
leaders believe would benefit from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus funding. CSA stepped up and organized a round table discussion amongst its Board of Directors and many of its members which provided the Governor with a listing of NASA projects that would have the greatest impact possible to the California economy. Although the numbers are preliminary, our analysis of the programs recommended would provide for an economic impact somewhere around $300-$500 million and translate into 715-1230 direct jobs. Applying the multiplier for indirect and induced jobs, the total direct, indirect and induced jobs would be in the neighborhood of 3500-6000 new positions. Attached is a copy of the letter Governor Schwarzenegger sent to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden expressing his support for California's space enterprise community and his desire that NASA's ARRA funds find their way to California.
